Resin Bound and Resin Bond

A resin driveway in Oldham is fitted using two different techniques, a resin-bound solution or a resin-bonded solution.

Resin Bound

Resin bound is created using a special mixer which will have a stone chip mixed into it along with a UV resin-bound solution. This is mixed for approximately 10 minutes which will make sure its properly activated and that the stone inside is completely encapsulated in the stone.

This mix is laid on top of a hard standing surface, which is levelled off at approximately 18mm in thickness and steel floated to lock it in place. On new installations, we recommend a permeable concrete or open porous tarmac surface to ensure the driveway is permeable.

Resin Bonded

Resin-bonded solutions are applied directly to the hard standing surface. The UV resin mix is applied on top of the hard-standing surface, and the chip stone is laid directly on top of the UV resin. This solution will need lightly compacting to get a proper grip on the stone however, some stones will come loose over a period of time.

Resin bond is a cheaper solution than resin bound, but it is not as durable and is not permeable. The resin-bound mix is superior since the entire chip is gripped by the UV and has a superior lifespan.
